Oats are expensive these days. More precisely, the prices for new games make you horrified. And so the decision was born, to go through the list of games that I wanted to play at one time, but somehow never got around to. And at the same time share your thoughts with the StopGame audience.

How many new games are released every month?? And every year? And how many of them gave the name to an entire genre?? Now it will be very difficult to find a person who is familiar with games and has never played at least one GTA style game. And for the most part they are recognized as secondary, sometimes not without charm, like Just Couses, but, as a rule, they do not become legendary. And this is not very good, because due to prejudices you can miss something interesting. So, catching up, I ended up in a game in which the creators of GTA hid all the children from the massacres of the main series. Bully, school bully simulator.

Under our leadership is fifteen-year-old Jimmy Hopkins, who has been kicked out of every school in the state. His mother found her next family happiness, and the difficult teenager was no longer needed. The solution was found to be extremely simple – the Bullworth private school, which, in addition to the absence of a child in the parents’ constant life, also guarantees an individual approach to each student. Bullworth promises to make every hooligan a worthy member of society, without specifying, however, by what methods. In fact, no one really cares. Children live on their own, and all the inevitable things in the process of growing up, such as fights, strange magazines and girls’ dorms, children comprehend to the accompaniment of the connivance of adults. Of course, from the outside it looks more like a menagerie.

Gary, a shady guy who www.quacksino.co.uk needs help in his ambitious plans to take over the school, offers to help Jimmy integrate into the team. It’s not that easy to do. The school already has an established hierarchy, and power has long been divided between local gangs. These are nerds, harmless in appearance, but capable of coming up with any nasty thing due to their intelligence and the superpower of sublimation, majors who don’t even go to class, but buy answers to tests, expect payments on trust funds and do other things worthy of high society, dudes, grease artists, pretentious guys, wearing leather jackets over their uniforms. Well, the jocks, where would we be without them?. In addition to this, there are also numerous teachers with their own requirements, aspirations and other similar things. All these characters appear on screen briefly. However, they are textured, even grotesque. And within their episodes they reveal themselves. Sometimes they even open up very well. Too much. In general, Jimmy will not be bored. In general, the hero will not remain unattended, almost always, if you suddenly get bored and stop, most likely, a passerby is already running towards you with a random small task. The main thing is to find time for all this after school.

About the lessons. The debate about the usefulness of school knowledge will apparently last forever. Some even say that school knowledge is useless. In Bulli this is only partly true. Classes are held twice a day, and at each of them Jimmy will have to do something that will undoubtedly be useful to him in adult life. There are many items, and they are all different. At each lesson the player will be offered a mini-game. In drawing you need to open a picture, in chemistry you need to perform the correct actions with reagents, in physical education you need to play dodgeball, look for words, play guitar hero, take photographs, and so on. There are five lessons for each subject. And after each lesson the player is given a bonus. Apparently, this is the very benefit that knowledge provides. There are useful bonuses, such as replenishing health from a kiss, and drawing lessons will also allow you to charm without resorting to giving gifts, or the respawn of all sorts of chemical things in the bedroom. There are also relatively useless ones. What, for example, will you do with a fish-shaped hat?? In favor of story missions, you can skip classes. Or simply fail a subject by making a mistake in class. In the end, all the same, when you try to make this item, you will return to a failed or skipped topic. Until the bitter end.

But which student puts his studies first?? Of course, the vast majority of the time Jimmy will communicate with his peers, solve his problems, the problems of fellow students, the problems of teachers, or find new problems in order to then solve them too. All this would be hard enough, but Jimmy is by no means harmless. He has an impressive arsenal of all sorts of things at his disposal, from prank items to vehicles. And, of course, fists. Jimmy is not a fool to fight and is ready to defend his opinion in all available ways. And here there is also the opportunity to learn new techniques – in physical education classes or from a homeless Korean War veteran – after which the blond scoundrel will be able to snitch on an adult. Well, if this doesn’t help, then there’s always the trusty slingshot, or you can pick up a brick from the floor as a last resort.

All hooligan actions will not go unnoticed. Elders keep order within the school walls, and police officers in the city. As soon as the hero does something wrong or even illegal, the problem meter scale is filled, which means that justice opens a hunt for the hero. However, you can escape, and after rhetoric lessons you can even negotiate with the law enforcement officers.

The problem of pocket money is just as acute. Some of them can be obtained on missions, or you can go help mow the lawn, or deliver newspapers. A student can spend money on clothes, or interesting, useful household items. You can buy soda and improve your health. You can go on a date or buy a girl flowers. Scabies powders and stink bombs can be used for other purposes. And if you don’t have money, you can always rummage through your fellow students’ lockers. Don’t get caught.

The game provides social interaction. Every person can be targeted and something can be done to them. You can mock, be rude, apologize or give a compliment. But mostly, of course, to make fun of us, after all, we are playing for the school bully. Perhaps such mass violence against children has never happened anywhere else.

Additionally, an interesting thing should be noted. It’s no secret that there is now a widespread obsession with tolerance and other equality. Nothing can be done now without offending anyone. And it works both ways. Champions of morality begin their crusades in the same way at every opportunity. Therefore, in mass production, manufacturers try to avoid sharp corners and unnecessary attention. And in this context, Bully is quite interesting, probably already an artifact. The developers clearly had nothing to lose, after all, the game is about a bully, and you can beat women and children. The game would have caused dissatisfaction with human rights activists in any case, and then they decided to go even further. For example, in the game the “kiss” activity is available for both girls and boys. Why the game was banned in Brazil, by the way. Or when was the last time you went to a dwarf fight?? Don’t answer, don’t. The game understands very well that it is a game and what kind of game it is, and it works out its hooligan subtext to the fullest.

And now we still have to remember that the game is not young. To put it mildly, not young. From a visual point of view, even at the time of release it had questionable graphics quality. However, for this game it is not particularly important. Grotesque style helps. There are other specific issues to note in the game. Logical. In this mission you need to bombard an unwanted house with eggs, and in the preparatory phase you need to get eggs. If the hero already has eggs, then there is no need to run to the store to get them, which is good. However, in the next mission, the seller from whom you could buy them will remember everything about the hero and ask how everything went, even if you didn’t go to him. Such things are rare, if I had not noted this episode, it is unlikely that I would have remembered about it later. Technical problems of the game are the main problem. For the most part, these are harmless artifacts, like objects that overlap each other. Or facial animation. The facial animation of this game can be forgiven due to its age and style. Although sometimes it makes her a little uncomfortable. Draw distance can sometimes cause issues. Frankly speaking, all this should be simply stated; it does not interfere with a comfortable game. The main and serious drawback is crashes. Spontaneous, and the cause could not be determined. And given that the game has a manual save system, and the points for them are not located close, this can be annoying, especially if after three or four not very short missions, between which you also need to ride, the game suddenly says that it’s done and offers Windows to look for solutions to the problem. With a known result. Although I used the old version from the disk, most likely most of this has already been fixed in the updated releases.

So what’s the end result?. As a result, we have a game that even now plays very well. Surprisingly, the typical problem of old games with an empty environment is absent here, you can do a lot of things, and most importantly, it’s all fun to do. Bad graphics are easily overcome by a simple but interesting style, there is no smell of realism here, and this only benefits the game. It’s interesting to follow the plot even despite its superficiality, lightness and frivolity. Overall, the experience of playing Bully is reminiscent of watching old action-comedies from the eighties. Not too logical, not very realistic, sometimes far-fetched, sometimes pretentious. But always cheerful, energetic and very cozy. Personally, I still sometimes rewatch Nyanek. And we love them for this comfort. And Bully is worth loving for him too. By the way, the game has now been ported to mobile platforms, which has made it even easier to get acquainted with it.
